Dr. Francesco Renzini from our team has presented at the NetLogo conference 2026 in Chicago (June 29th – July 1st, 2026) the lessons learned after years of experience in teaching agent-based modelling and NetLogo to hundreds of PhD students and early career researchers. The title of his workshop was “From Beginner to Modeler: Teaching Agent-Based Modeling with NetLogo at the BEHAVE Summer School“. This workshop presented how NetLogo has been used to train the next generation of agent-based modellers at the BEHAVE Summer School. The workshop detailed our approach: we do not simply teach a programming language, but foster the mindset and practices of a modeller. It drew on over a decade of teaching experience, sharing practical strategies for effective learning and addressing common challenges faced by early-career researchers. He also presented recent developments enabling advanced Bayesian estimation of NetLogo models using PyABC and BayesFlow via PyNetLogo.
