Mariya Lenko

Mariya Lenko is a PhD student at the University of Trento and a member of a research unit that promotes theoretically driven empirical research, focusing on social inequalities, their relation to institutions and their change over time. She will join the BehaveLab in September 2025 for one year to investigate partner selection and the dynamics of the marriage market using ABM.
Dennis Nientimp

Dennis is a PhD student embedded in the NNC cluster of the sociology department at the University of Groningen, working on understanding and improving the implementation of community energy with network analysis, simulations and participatory methods. He will join the BehaveLab in September 2025 to extend empirically informed diffusion simulations, in which he models possible community energy initiative dissemination strategies with the use of network and survey data of northern dutch rural villages.
Richard Green
Richard GreenUniversity of Surrey (UK)
Dr. Richard Green is a Surrey Future Fellow at the University of Surrey, UK. He is a key contributor to the NIHR-EPSRC-funded Care-Full programme, where he is leading on participatory qualitative approaches to data collection to inform the development of an agent-based model. He visits the BehaveLab team on 9-13 June 2025.

Prof. Rainer Hegselman is one of the founding fathers of social simulation and an influential scholar in computational social science. He visits the BehaveLab team on 26-30 May 2025.
Elena Álvarez García

Elena Álvarez García will (re)join BEHAVE from 1 September 2024 to 1 March 2025 to work on her PhD dissertation on data analysis of peer review in scholarly journals. Elena is currently a PhD student at the Department of Computer Sciences of the University of Valencia under the supervision of Prof. Francisco Grimaldo.

Joshua M. Epstein is Professor of Epidemiology in the NYU School of Global Public Health and founding Director of the NYU Agent-Based Modeling Laborator. He will join our team for joint projects on inverse generative social science.
Eduardo Coltre Ferraciolli

Eduardo Coltre Ferraciolli will visit our BehaveLab from October 2023 to April 2024. For his PhD, Eduardo is investigating complementary currencies by deploying combined frameworks from economics and sociology. At our lab, Eduardo will develop agent-based formalizations addressing open questions on monetary theory. Eduardo’s background also includes work with finance in Brazil and with artificial intelligence in the Shenzhen technology industry.
Francesca Giardini

Francesca Giardini is associate professor in sociology at the University of Groningen, NL. She uses theoretical analysis, agent-based modeling and lab experiments to investigate the mechanisms of social sustainability, social norms and cooperation. She is interested in gossip and reputation based governance and she is also working on risk communication and disaster resilience. She will visit the Behave team during a mini-sabbatical granted by the University of Groningen in May 2023.
Thomas Klebel

As part of his PhD, Thomas investigates the interplay between the advent of Open Science practices and structural forces leading to inequality in academia. He will join BEHAVE from 15 to 16 December 2021 to work on a joint project about data sharing practices and policies. Thomas has a background in sociology and music performance, and is project manager for the EC-funded project ON-MERRIT.

Elena Álvarez García will join BEHAVE from 13 to 17 December 2021 to work on a joint project on data analysis of peer review in scholarly journals. Elena is currently a master student at the Department of Computer Sciences of the University of Valencia under the supervision of Prof. Francisco Grimaldo.
Elisa Bellotti
Elisa BellottiLecturer, University of Manchester
Elisa Bellotti will spend part of her sabbatical year at BEHAVE from 1 September 2021 to 31 January 2022 to work on joint projects on social network analysis, gender and sociology of science. Elisa is member of the Mitchell Centre for Social Network Analysis at the University of Manchester and she is a widely recognised expert in ego networks and mixed methods.
Marco Seeber

Marco Seeber will join BEHAVE from 27 to 29 September 2021 to work on joint projects on peer review with Prof. Flaminio Squazzoni. Marco is doing research on science and evaluation using a multilevel, comparative and quantitative approach.
Daniel Garcia Costa

Daniel Garcia Costa will join BEHAVE from 28 June to end of July 2021 to work on a joint project on data analysis of peer review on scholarly journals with Dr. Federico Bianchi and Prof. Flaminio Squazzoni. Daniel is specialised in data science and data mining and works at the Department of Computer Sciences of the University of Valencia under the supervision of Prof. Francisco Grimaldo.
Tanzhe Tang

Tanzhe Tang joined BEHAVE on November 2019 to work on a joint project on network attributes of opinion dynamics in agent-based models. Tanzhe is working in an ERC project “Behave” led by Caspar Chorus, professor of Choice Behaviour Modelling at Delft University of Technology
